Dead Sea Hair Products: Which to Use, How Often, and What to Expect
If you have ever stood in the shower looking at a row of bottles and wondered which one actually does what, you are not alone. Dead Sea hair products are made with mineral-rich mud and salts from the Dead Sea, and they work a little differently from the usual high-street formulas. This guide walks you through the five products we make, how they feel, when to use them, and what to expect, so you can build a simple routine that suits your hair.
What Makes Dead Sea Hair Products Different
Our hair products are made in Jordan at the Dead Sea, about 430 meters below sea level. The mud and salts there carry one of the highest mineral loads on earth. That means these products are rich and concentrated, so a little goes a long way. They are not about quick fixes or dramatic claims. They are about gentle, thorough cleansing and leaving your hair and scalp feeling comfortable and refreshed.
The Five Dead Sea Hair Products
Hair Mud Mask
This is a thick, creamy mud that you apply to damp hair and scalp, leave for a few minutes, then rinse. It feels cool and slightly tingly, and it gives a deep clean without stripping. Use it once a week, or every other week if your hair is dry. It suits most hair types, but those with oily roots and normal-to-dry ends tend to like it best. If you have a very sensitive scalp, start with once every two weeks.
Mud Shampoo
A gentle everyday shampoo with a light mud base. It lathers modestly and rinses clean, leaving hair soft rather than squeaky. Use it as your regular wash, as often as you normally shampoo. It is a good match for normal to oily hair, and for anyone who wants a simple, no-fuss clean.
Hair Shampoo
This is our classic shampoo, a bit creamier than the Mud Shampoo. It feels smooth and conditioning as you work it in, and it is kind to dry or colored hair. Use it whenever you wash, and follow with Hair Balsam if you like extra softness. Curly hair often likes this one because it does not leave hair feeling stripped.
Anti-flakes Shampoo
This is a shampoo for a flaky-feeling scalp. It has a fresh, clean scent and a gentle lather. Use it two or three times a week, or as needed, massaging it into the scalp and letting it sit for a minute before rinsing. It is not a medicine and does not name any condition, but many people find it leaves the scalp feeling soothed and less flaky. If your scalp is also dry, alternate with the Hair Shampoo.
Hair Balsam
A light conditioner that you apply after shampooing, from mid-length to ends. It feels silky and absorbs quickly, so it does not weigh hair down. Use it every time you wash, or as often as your hair needs it. It is especially good for dry, colored, or curly hair that tends to tangle.
How to Build a Weekly Plan
You do not need to use every product every day. Here is a simple weekly plan that works for most people:
- Monday: Hair Shampoo + Hair Balsam
- Tuesday: Mud Shampoo (no conditioner if hair is oily)
- Wednesday: Anti-flakes Shampoo + Hair Balsam
- Thursday: Hair Shampoo + Hair Balsam
- Friday: Hair Mud Mask (leave on 5–10 minutes, then rinse)
- Saturday: Mud Shampoo + Hair Balsam
- Sunday: Rest day, or just rinse with water
Adjust as your hair needs. If your scalp feels flaky, use the Anti-flakes Shampoo more often. If your hair is dry, swap the Mud Shampoo for the Hair Shampoo and use the mask weekly.
Which Hair Type Likes Which Product
Here is a quick comparison to help you choose:
| Product | Best for | How often | Feels like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hair Mud Mask | Oily roots, normal ends; all hair types | Once a week | Cool, tingly, deep clean |
| Mud Shampoo | Normal to oily hair | Daily or every other day | Light lather, soft finish |
| Hair Shampoo | Dry, colored, curly hair | Daily or as needed | Creamy, conditioning |
| Anti-flakes Shampoo | Flaky-feeling scalp | 2–3 times a week | Fresh, soothing |
| Hair Balsam | Dry, colored, curly hair | Every wash | Silky, lightweight |
Mistakes to Avoid
- Using too much product. Dead Sea products are concentrated. Start with a small amount and add more if needed.
- Leaving the mud mask on too long. 5–10 minutes is plenty. Longer does not make it work better.
- Skipping conditioner on dry hair. If your hair is dry or curly, always follow shampoo with Hair Balsam.
- Using the Anti-flakes Shampoo every day. It is gentle, but most people do fine with 2–3 times a week.
- Not rinsing thoroughly. Leftover product can make hair feel heavy. Rinse until the water runs clear.
How to Store Your Products in a Humid Bathroom
Bathrooms can get steamy, and that can affect natural products. Keep lids tightly closed and store them away from direct shower spray. If you have space, a cabinet or shelf away from the tub is ideal. The Hair Mud Mask and Mud Shampoo are fine at room temperature, but try not to let water get into the jars. A small spatula or clean fingers help keep the mud mask dry. If your bathroom is very humid, you can keep the products in a bedroom or closet and bring them in as needed.
Where to Start
If you are new to Dead Sea hair products, start with the Hair Shampoo and Hair Balsam for daily wash days. Add the Hair Mud Mask once a week for a deeper clean. If your scalp feels flaky, try the Mud Shampoo or our Anti-flakes Shampoo (link to product page) as a gentle alternative. You can also explore our full hair care collection to see all options.
